american company gemory has developed the nanotechnology, which allows images to be permanently inscribed in high-resolution on the surface of stones without harming them in any way.

the pictures won't be visible to the naked eye, but can be seen through a portable device called a gemmaview.

i'm thinking this invention could also come in handy for 007:

“good evening mr bond.”
“that's bond, james bond.”
“whatever. where are the secret documents?”
“i've photographed them and had them inscribed on my ring.”
“ingenious! now bend over mr bond. as you know, i'm quite without mercy.”

according to gemory, images can be inscribed side-by-side and more photos added further down the track by future generations. pictures can also be deleted, which could be useful if you get written out of granny’s will or split up with some dullard.
